Our inclusive employer partner, Merle’s Cafe, thriving through lockdown

Job Centre Australia employer partner, Merle’s Café in Gosford NSW, is a huge supporter of inclusion in the workplace. Owner Merle is passionate about offering training and employment opportunities for all, and she’s reaping the benefits with our three of our hardworking candidates!

Throughout lockdown, Merle kept the café doors open for takeaway orders, and she also cooks the most delicious South African curries which people get delivered as far away as Sydney. As such, the business has flourished – enabling her team to continue their employment while gaining crucial workplace skills.

When he first came to Job Centre Australia, Bowen had never had a job. With ongoing support from our team, Bowen built on his confidence and skillset and soon secured an internship with Merle’s. Merle has been busy training him up in customer service, basic food prep, and coffee making. He is now undergoing a traineeship and we’re proud to say, is thriving!

Isaak just started with Merle’s last month, bringing some dishwashing experience and loads of enthusiasm. He’s doing brilliant in his role, and with Merle’s and Job Centre Australia’s support, will follow a similar career path to Bowen.

A third JCAL candidate with Merle’s is just getting back into the workforce. She’s been a cook previously, and now has the opportunity to expand on her skillset with training in service, barista and cooking.

Congratulations on all your success Merle, and thank you for your dedication to helping our candidates grow and achieve their personal goals!
